Emerging Social and Technology Trends

There was a bit of debate about what’s driving what… technology affecting social change or social changing driving technology.  At the least, we are all receiving more feedback about our identities online than we have before.

Three interesting trends:

  • the “widgetizing” of web content and interactivity.  It’s breaking down the sense of “place” within the internet (as if the internet hadn’t already put into question what we experience as “place”).
  • sites like plazes.com are putting the “geography” back into the internet by physically locating people during the online interactions.
  • the under 18-ish crowd is much more fluid in navigating the differences between public and private.  They are much more revelatory in their information sharing and they don’t see it as a big deal.
